The cost of the aviation program is a serious issue. There
are millions of scholarships waiting to be found, and they're not just for
straight-A students, but a web search may head you to expensive, fee-based
search engines. There are alternative
sites on the web, however, that may be useful.
To make sense of the all the funds available, start with
online scholarship search services. They can help you focus on scholarships
that match your interests, talents and accomplishments. While we can not endorse any of the information contained on the web, the five major
sites listed may be worth researching:
The College Board
The College Board, known for the SAT, features a free scholarship search on its
Web site. Answer a brief questionnaire, and you'll get a list of potential
scholarships. You can also include loans, internships and federal aid in the
search. The results include scholarship amounts, application requirements and
contact information.
College Answer
Backed by Sallie Mae, College Answer claims listings for over 2.4 million
scholarships. The search requires free registration. Once you fill in your
profile, you'll be matched with potential scholarships. And each time you log
into the site, the search repeats to catch new listings.
FastWeb
FastWeb boasts a list of over a million scholarships. You
can set e-mail notices for new or expiring scholarships that match your
interests and qualifications. You can also take advantage of a personal
calendar that lists important dates along with links to detailed information
and applications forms.
College-Scholarships.com
This is a large directory of scholarship search sites. You'll also find
a massive directory of colleges across the country. Organized by state, the
college listings include contact information for admissions and financial aid
departments. Also included are links to admissions applications and college Web
sites.
Scholarships.com
Like most search sites, Scholarships.com uses a questionnaire to profile and
match students to potential funds. The site claims 3,000 scholarships available
for searching. But the site also has plenty of simple articles explaining
federal aid and scholarship scams. You'll also find a loan payment calculator
and worksheets for budgeting.
